Brain stimulation involves the use of a stimulant to activate or inhibit one or more brain functions. The stimulant can be invasive or noninvasive. Thus, brain or neurostimulation using noninvasive stimulants falls into noninvasive brain stimulation category. Therefore, brain stimulation using invasive stimulants falls into invasive neurostimulation category.

Photobiomodulation is a non-invasive form of neurostimulation.  This form of photobiomodulation has a title of transcranial photobiomodulation or tPBM, and is the least invasive method of brain stimulation. It utilizes the near-infrared light (NIR) to penetrate through the cranial and to deliver the NIR energy to the neurones.

Brain light therapy or tPBM is undergoing extensive research and is a part of numerous clinical trials and research studies. This research has a variety of directions and focus. Some researchers study effects of tPBM on neurodegenerative disorders, like Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease. Others, study applications of tPBM for athletic and physical performance. Thus, potential applications of tPBM are expending as scientists learn more and understand its effects better.

Vielight is playing an important role in making tPBM accessible to consumers. Vielight is a leader in design and manufacturing of user-friendly brain stimulation devices for home-use. Furthermore, all Vielight devices are classified as general wellness devices according to the FDA guidelines. Last, but not least, some of Vielight photobiomodulation devices are studied in a number of clinical trials and research studies for various indications.

Parkinson’s Disease Clinical Trial Results | Vielight Brain Photobiomodulation Technology

This study was a historical first in showing the potential efficacy of photobiomodulation for Parkinson's symptoms in humans. The Vielight Neuro Gamma was utilized for transcranial-intranasal brain photobiomodulation and an Irradia MID 2.5 laser device for neck and abdominal photobiomodulation throughout this study. Dementia and Brain Photobiomodulation

In 2015, our dementia pilot trial made history by being the first to show efficacy of brain photobiomodulation (PBM) for dementia in humans with a home-use device, the Vielight Neuro Gamma.[1] In 2019, Dr. Linda Chao, a professor in the Departments of Radiology, Biomedical Imaging and Psychiatry at the University of California, verified our [...]

What are the differences between the Vielight Neuro Alpha and Neuro Gamma devices?

The question, “When should I use an alpha frequency and when should I use a gamma frequency?” is not new. In the context of brain photobiomodulation and Vielight products, this question refers to the Vielight Neuro Alpha and Neuro Gamma devices. More specifically, answering this question requires an understanding of the differences between these [...]

Brain Photobiomodulation Pathways, Their Benefits and Opportunities

Numerous studies conducted over the last two decades have shown the beneficial effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) on the body. Furthermore, a lot of research has been done over the last decade to better understand PBM’s effects on the brain. Today, there is a sufficient body of research-based evidence to conclude that PBM has beneficial [...]

Types of Brain Stimulation Technology

The enhancement of human cognitive processes has long been a focus of scientific discovery. Progress in technology and research, has lead to non-invasive brain stimulation therapies playing increasingly important roles in improving neuroplasticity, brain performance, and neuromodulation. What is non-invasive brain stimulation? Non-invasive brain stimulation is defined as the delivery of energy through the [...]

Elderly Cognitive Decline and Brain Photobiomodulation

A growing problem facing the elderly – age-related cognitive decline Several factors of brain aging and age-related cognitive decline Brain photobiomodulation (PBM) and mitochondrial function Brain PBM and metabolic effects Brain PBM and anti-inflammatory effects Brain PBM leads to a reduction in neuronal excitotoxicity Brain PBM increases cerebral vascularity and oxygenation Published research – [...]

X-Plus 3: Exponential Performance

Introducing the X-Plus 3 Whether you are seeking to improve mental performance (brain photobiomodulation) or body resilience and functions (systemic photobiomodulation), the X-Plus 3 on its own or in combination with a Neuro model will go a long way to help you. Our acute Covid-19 recovery study used a version of the X-Plus [...]

Brain Waves and Their Usefulness

Introduction At Vielight, we work tirelessly to offer products that are helpful to improve brain functions. A large part of this relates to the use of photobiomodulation (PBM) to modulate brain waveforms. Here we share why this understanding is useful, starting with the neurofeedback practitioners’ perspective. Neurofeedback training and the brain  Every brain is [...]

Brain Stimulation: EEG Neurofeedback and Photobiomodulation

“tPBM has become a central element in my protocol design process. I find it to be an excellent complement to the functional support provided by neurofeedback.” “Helping brains develop new connections which support better function is an important part of neurofeedback training. Based on emerging research, tPBM can potentially support the growth of those [...]

Combining Neurofeedback with Photobiomodulation

What can be achieved by combining neurofeedback with photobiomodulation? A creative and curious mind can be a beginning of something new, something important, even something big. This is as true in the field of arts as it is in the field of sciences. This article offers one more testament to these observations. Penijean Gracefire [...]
